Blog catch-up

I'm trying to catch up on our Blog. As a result, I'm adding a few things I should have weeks ago.
Our daughter Robbie got adventurous and took a road trip. First, she came to see us at New River. We had a wonderful time, and she loved it. I think we'll see her again next summer.

Our darling Avy is growing so fast. There are changes every day. Thank goodness for Skype!

"It's a wonderful night for a moon dance....." Tonight's moon is a blue moon because it's the second full moon in the  month. I'm trying to get a picture, but smoke and clouds are interfering at the moment. I'll keep trying.

In the fall the south & east watch hurricanes form; the west fights wildfires. This is a very dry year when any spark can start a fire that burns thousands of acres in a short time. The fires in Idaho as well as southern Montana have sent smoke our way. The picture above was an exceptionally clear day on the Going-to-the-sun road. Many days look like this one on Lake McDonald:
Nevertheless, Yellowstone and Glacier Parks have been crowded and the campgrounds full all summer. We have stayed outside Glacier at a friendly, comfortable RV park in Hungry Horse, Montana. As a sidebar, Hungry Horse Dam was once the largest dam in the world (in the 1930's). The reservoir is a beautiful recreation area.

Another large lake in the area is Flathead Lake, the largest body of fresh water west of the Mississippi.

All around the east side of the lake the delicious Flathead cherries grow in abundance. We enjoyed picking them twice this month. In addition to the sweet dark cherries, there is the tart variety. I even baked a pie!
