Veterans Day
I come from one of those very old Southern families chocked full of veterans from many wars. As children my cousins and I were facinated with our Uncle Jessie's uniforms and gas mask from WWI. His sister, Aunt Elsie, was also in the service. There were many in WWII, and so it goes on my father's side. On my mother's side, the veterans date back to merry olde England and march through the wars fought to become a separate nation. I am always appalled with school systems that do not declare this a day off from school. One argument is the kids will just go to the beach or work. So what? We don't know their background. Some are struggling with parents in the Middle East and others have lost their parent. They need to feel we honor our veterans by stopping for the day to observe.
That's my rant for the day. Well..... one of them. Someone sent me a ridiculas email with the picture of a tombstone on which it read: "United States of America, born 1776, died Nov. 8, 2008, Suicide". Oh Brother. I kind of scorched the internet with my response, which ended with my comment: "I think, after 8 years of disgrace, we have been reborn". Probably can write that contact off my list. It sounds like "Save your confederate money, the South shall rise again." More whining.
That's it. Next post will be happy and uplifting.
